Startup Customer Stories: Deep Blocks: Using AI to Design Better Cities of the Future

When builders, architects, developers, and commercial brokers develop and design a building, they’ve historically worked in a vacuum, unable to optimize their work against the whole project, causing delays and unnecessary costs.

Co-founders Olivia Ramos and Uri Wolfowitz started Deep Blocks in 2016 while attending Singularity University’s (SU) Global Solutions Program (now known as the Global Startup Program) with the intention to solve that costly, antiquated approach.

Using AI-based software and inputs from specific properties and locations, Deep Blocks creates an optimized report that dynamically integrates finance, big data, and architecture constraints and helps everyone involved to work together to optimize their own contributions to the project.

Deep Blocks has a plan to eventually incorporate floorplan optimization and space configuration in the software platform, as well as building code data for designing buildings in regional areas with coastal floodplains, hurricanes, or earthquakes. Adding mixed reality and blockchain to the mix in the future will all lead to lowering the cost of building, and ultimately, the cost of living.

Read this case study to learn how, working with SU, Deep Blocks reduced project time by 1000x, raised $1 million in seed funding, and created 15 pilot programs currently in operation.

At Singularity University, we work with startups at the intersection of exponential technologies and global impact. We take a long-term approach to helping them build high-growth, sustainable businesses. SU Ventures provides exclusive bootcamps, sprints, and other programs that promote breakthroughs, accelerate milestones, and help entrepreneurs succeed.

Whether you’re starting an early-stage venture, scaling a startup, or innovating inside a large company with thoughts of a spinoff, see how we can help your idea take flight.

“We built a product that could already do the work without AI, and then once we knew which specific calculations and datasets we needed, we used different tools within AI to implement them for a very, very powerful solution the world has never seen before. ”— Olivia Ramos, Co-Founder of Deep Blocks
