Arash Aazami is here for the big change: a world where every individual has the right to harvest, use and share nature’s ever-existing energy abundance. As founder of Unify.energy, global advocate for the Internet of Energy and chairman of UniversalRight, Arash inspires future-makers across the globe to rethink energy and the role they can play in the establishment of a new 100% renewables-based, inclusive and just energy reality for all. Arash grew up in a Dutch-Persian family of purpose-driven development workers in Niger, West Africa and moved to The Netherlands before high school. He auditioned for conservatory and studied jazz guitar in The Netherlands after which he pursued careers in music -touring Europe and North America as a guitarist in the late ‘90s- and online tech -pioneering in interactivity and e-commerce.
In 2006 he became managing director at a Dutch utility and in 2010 he founded BAS (Beneficial to All Stakeholders), the first energy company with an inverted business model, earning more as it sells less energy. His revolutionary Path to Zero business model and proposition, allowing energy users to personalize their transition to energy independence, was awarded by MIT in 2014. In 2016 Arash birthed the Internet of Energy initiative, merging his pioneering experiences in internet and energy. Driven by a desire to contribute to a global fair and just energy system based on 100% renewable resources he develops future-proof design principles, AI-based peer-to-peer energy exchange models and algorithms that facilitate next-gen smart grids, self-balancing integrated energy systems, offering structural solutions to grid congestion, energy price volatility, and geopolitical energy dependencies.
His keynotes merge deep understanding of energy-related trends, geopolitics and digital technologies with the human elements: mindset, social design, values and ethics.
Arash has worked with the European Commission, the International Energy Agency, as an expert with Singularity University since 2017, IRENA, and multiple governments as well as a wide array of enterprises in energy, telco, IT, and various industries, bringing the Internet of Energy onto their strategic agendas.
He has presented hundreds of keynotes and workshops for Singularity University, TEDx, European Commission, IEA, Blockchain Summit, IFMA, Young Presidents Organization, SXSW, Tomorrowland, The Next Web and many others, and was invited by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 2022 for a dialogue on energy and climate. He also developed and curated various tech and energy hackathons, as well as Europe’s largest sustainability conference in collaboration with Tomorrowland: Love Tomorrow Conference.
Arash wrote several publications and reports: From Volume to Value, Smart Multi Commodity Grid, Deltagrid 2050, and The Netherlands’ policy agenda for energy and digitalization ‘More than the Sum of all Parts’. His keynotes are widely acclaimed as insightful, inspiring, hope-giving and paradigm-shifting.
Can you imagine a lamp powered by a plant? Or a glacier in the middle of the desert? These are not crazy ideas, but working solutions already developed by some of the brightest minds that we often overlook: seekers, artists and hackers. An inspiring and hope-giving session, empowering the participants to shift their energy paradigms and become protagonists of a nature-based and highly connected energy future.
We cannot build tomorrow based on yesterday’s thinking. Regardless of what happens, energy will always be a fundamental need for individuals and businesses. As the fundamental currency of nature, all true value creation is firmly rooted in the generation and conversion of energy. We need breakthrough innovations in technology, business models, social models and policy to ensure a sustainable energy future. With inspiring, paradigm-shifting and disruptive examples of energy innovations by seekers, artists and hackers, participants expand their horizon and obtain valuable insights enabling them to make more impact through applying different mindsets on their work. The big change is possible and even inevitable.
This session leads the participants through a new energy context: thousands of years of renewable energy use were only shortly interrupted by the use of fossil fuels between the industrial revolution and today. Humanity now makes the shift to ‘renewables 2.0’, utilizing high tech, low tech and deep tech to transit to a 100% abundant renewables-based new energy reality: the Internet of Energy. Exponential technologies rapidly render the old system obsolete and pave the way for a deep-democratic energy system, aligned with nature and accessible for all humans.
This session is perfect for leaders and all lifelong learners seeking to shift their mindset and expand their understanding of energy systems and their transitions. This session empowers participants to develop their dreams, philosophies and concepts into action and impact. Dream, develop, do.
How we inevitably transition to a global network of peer-to-peer energy for all users. In this interactive session, participants learn about the massive impact that digital technologies already have on our energy reality, and how they can make conscious decisions for future-proof energy strategies.
In a world with 18 billion (and growing) internet-connected devices, all capable to produce, use or manage energy, applying AI, swarm intelligence and machine learning will quickly render existing energy markets and conventions obsolete. We are already amidst the revolution.
Against the backdrop of the rapid adoption of the internet, growing from zero to 5,5 billion users in under 50 years, participants will learn how the analogy of the internet applies to the adoption of distributed energy technologies including power generation, storage, conversion and grid management, fundamentally disrupting markets and shifting the geopolitical balance. The session includes multiple interactions with the audience and ends with a q&a dialogue on the IoE.
This session is aimed at executives in energy, IT and telco as well as policy makers and investors, looking to navigate their organizations through the twin energy and digital transitions. Participants learn to make conscious strategic decisions, apply exponential thinking for a new energy reality, and are inspired to foster breakthrough innovations and business models.
