Zack Abbott is the cofounder and CEO of ZBiotics, the company that brought the world's first genetically engineered probiotics to market. After completing his PhD in Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Michigan, he focused on engineering probiotic bacteria that could help solve everyday problems of human health. At ZBiotics, he leads a talented team to develop totally novel products, aiming to make biotechnology more accessible and useful in people's daily lives. Their first product — launched in 2019 — is called Pre-Alcohol, and it contains a probiotic genetically engineered to break down the toxic byproduct of alcohol metabolism most responsible for rough mornings after drinking. And they just launched their second product called Sugar-to-Fiber last year, and it contains a probiotic genetically engineered to convert small amounts of sugar from your diet into prebiotic fiber directly in your gut. The company is excited to continue to leverage their platform technology to continue to invent new ingredients with novel and valuable functions, and then turn them into products they sell to consumers. They also are passionate about advocating for genetic engineering and transparently label every bottle and box with "proudly GMO".
